Photo Story Friday

The other day Javin and I were looking at the pictures on Auntie Megan's wall and he started naming the people in them. First he said Shawn and then moved on to Shaylee after that he named Megan. He was doing so well. I didn't think he knew how to say them all. I must admit I was so pleased. Then we came to a picture with Megan and my Da. It has been many months since he last saw my Da so I thought I could really stump him on that one. So I asked "Who is that one there Flava?" as I pointed to me Da. Without hesitation he smiled and said, "Gumpa". I was pretty surprised that he remembered him. The next Sunday was Father's Day and I had neglected to get a card for my Da so I did the whole cop out and just called. My call had one saving grace. I related that story to him. I wish I could have seen his face, but I didn't need to because the joy was evident in his voice as it cracked a bit I could tell he was on the verge of tears. This is dedicated to me Da. We love him so much. Fathers are such a great blessing and I am pretty sure I got the best one of the lot.

It's official!

For 7 long years we tried, yearned and waited to have children in our family. We prayed, we begged and we plead the Lord to bless us with children. After not being able to "make one" ourselves we went the adoption route. We had friends that had put in their paper work and a mere three month later were blessed with a baby. We were so excited to see how fast it could happen, so we readily and eagerly put in ours. Three months came and went, then six, then a year, that year turned into two which turned into three. Finally when our hope was beginning to fail us, we got that longed for call from LDS Family services. We went and chatted with them. They said we have a woman who is due on friday, she just contacted us last week and so this will be a high risk adoption because everything isn't all squared away but if you are interested we have a baby for you. They also said she had done some drugs during the pregnancy and also drank on a regular basis. We didn't need the night to sleep on it. We knew in our hearts and minds that this child was meant to be ours.
We had tons of preparations to get done....she was due on friday learned about it on monday. Aaron and I immediately (with the help of my sister, my brother and his wife) began to ready the house. tuesday was all about getting the nursery ready. Wednesday morning I was at the temple doing my shift (I was very blessed to have been a temple worker for a year) when most of the way through a session the supervisor came and said I needed to call my husband. Directly after it ended I did just that. Our SON had come early and we were to go get him that very day. Many tears of joy were shed on my way home, in fact I am not sure how I made it home on my scooter...kind of hard to wipe tears with a helmet on you know.
We got our boy and how great was our joy. We spent the first five month ignorantly happy. And why not we finally were a family of three. Then it happened, the social worker who was over zealous in her job located the potential birth father. He demanded a paternity test. We were shocked and horrified. After waiting for 3 months thinking he had gone away we hear that he has finally saved up the $$ to pay and wanted to know. Well our worst nightmare came true, it was a 99.9% positive match.
And on our way to thanksgiving with my family in 2006 we get a call from our agent informing us that the birth father had retained council and was suing for permanent custody. My heart sank to the floor my joyous holiday was shattered. To add insult to injury he proceeded to tell us that he was pretty sure that there was not a darn thing we could do and he was just as sure that we were going to lose the love of our life.

Luckily for us we found a WONDERFUL attorney who fought tooth and nail to help us. And now over two years of frustration and tears and all that goes along with court battles we are done. We went before the judge (a man whose countenance was truly glowing) and now he is really and truly and forever (as soon as we get him sealed) our boy. Words don't even come near to expressing the happiness and joy that filled my soul as we heard the judge declare him ours.

That is one down and one to go. Orissa's adoption is pending and will soon be final too. Children are such a blessing no matter how they come to us, they are a gift from our Father in Heaven.

I heard about this great contest that is happening...and it is to win a book. That would be great, my whole family loves books. We are addicted to Star Wars books but love all sorts of good stories. So head on over to Anne Bradshaw's site and check it out. Doesn't everyone love a good story?
And thanks Anne, for putting on the contest.

What they teach us about them.

Have you ever had an ah-ha moment where that light bulb can actually be seen hovering over your head and there is a definite DING! DING! DING! going off in your brain. If you haven't guessed I recently had one. As I have said before, Javin is a 2 year old, with all the fits and limit pushing that are part and parcel with the age. To be honest, I have been at my wits end many a time. You know what I'm talking about, the place where you are so angry with the child you are yanking your own hair and looking for a some what soft object on which to bang your head to avoid doing something rash.
Javin has begun pouring our his drinks and food on the table and using them as his medium with which to create masterpieces. Only they always get out of hand and end up on the table, the floor, the walls, his clothes and all to often me. In the not too distant past I would get angry raise my voice and put him in time out. That technique just didn't work. He could truly care less if he was made to sit somewhere by himself. He would sit there and yell NO! at me as he stomped his foot. Then one day, a day when the Lord truly was with me and giving me inspiration, he made one of these beautiful messes, and my first reaction was not an explosion of mommy frustration. I calmly said "oh what a lovely mess. Look at how the colors mesh with each other, but I think it is time to get a wipe and clean it up."
Now here is where my miracle happened. He didn't yell at me, he didn't stomp his foot or even run away. He went and found the nearest box of wipes and brought them to me. I pulled out one and he followed suit. We then proceeded to clean together. He giggled when some of the slop dribbled off the table when pushed with the wipe. He even wanted to be the one to put the used up wipes in the trash can. That was just fine by me, I want him to learn that taking out the trash is a "man thing" anyway. Sure the whole process took ten times as long with his help, but it was so worth it. In the end we were both happy and neither of us were searching for that perfect object on which to bang our heads.
Life is a bit easier since I had that particular ah-ha. I suppose THAT is a big part of life, one ah-ha after another until we have figured it out and are truly on the straight and narrow and holding firmly to that iron rod.

Life is sweet!

Javin just loves his cousins, and he is fortunate to have three of them live close by. Today his Shushy (Shaylee) was over to play. They did a great job playing in the living room, got every toy out spread the mess thoroughly around. That led them to the kitchen. I admit I wasn't keeping too close of an eye on them, Megan and I were watching a movie. But hey they were happy we could hear the squeals of delight. That should have been the tip off that they were possibly up to no good.
Then Shushy came crawling out of the kitchen. She was smiling and obviously pleased with herself. However, she was also covered in a a strange white substance. This of course led to an extensive investigation. When we entered the room we saw the mystery goo was also all over Javin, the floor and a measuring container. I picked up the container and immediately realized what ever it was,it was VERY sticky. Then I remembered I had used powdered sugar the previous evening on my crapes. Then I spotted the measuring cup that at one time had been full of snowy white sweetness,at the same moment Megan came to the same conclusion that I had. Javin, with his ever expanding reach, had gotten the sugar and decided to make his very own icing. Without a cake or donuts to frost with the sticky gooey sweetness, they would just cover each other. They looked like ghostly figures. It was so cute and funny, I couldn't work myself to be upset. The only bummer of the whole thing is the lack of a picture. You guessed neither one of us grabbed the camera.
Gotta go, my Flava is having a rough night.
