Wordless Wednesday: Political Wall Ride

No matter who you are going to vote for, I thought this bit of street art was spectacular. I saw it on the way home, and was impressed with the quality, and the fact that both candidates were fairly represented. So This can be enjoyed by people on both sides of the political spectrum!

Sick Kids ARGH!

It is amazing how different my children are. Everything about them is different. Javin was a BIG robust baby who seriously only got sick once in his first year of life. OK, it was a pretty sick mind you, but we only had to deal with the sick baby thing that one time. He didn't even have a cold or runny nose for the rest of his first year. Orissa, on the other hand has been a bit more on the sick side. We knew it was a real possibility since she was born so small, and compared to other babies of her age she is still VERY small. It seems like any bug that is going around finds her. I don't know how, but they do. And for her it's not, "oh she has a bit of a cold." It's more like crap Javin's cold has become a nightmare and Orissa needs extra breathing meds added to her albuterol. This most current cold for Javin has equalled an ear infection and breathing issues for the Orissa. We had to get her an oral steroid, amoxicillin, and ipratropium bromide. Now, you might be thinking that that is a lot of meds for one 8 month old to have at one time however, those are just the ones they added to her regular every day ones. She has three that she has to take on a daily basis. Two of them are for her acid reflux and the other one is suppose to keep her from getting any lung infections. I don't usually complain for the whole world to hear, but this bug has really been well, bugging me. Because she has picked up a bad cough and a snotty nose she often gags on the phlegm that she coughs up, which causes her to toss her proverbial cookies. Every time I gave her formula it came up with in 15 minutes. I could however get her to keep the baby food down, I am guessing it is because it is thicker and thus sticks in her tummy better. We are finally on the mend, I think! I gave her a few ounces of formula an hour ago and haven't seen it since!
Javin has been over this cold/bug thing for two or three days now and he didn't need any meds or even a trip to the doctor.
Each child is different, with a myriad of challenges for their parent to face and grow from. I guess I really am grateful for that. Why? Well, I suppose the easy, short answer would be that as parents we are stretched into better people as we learn how to handle and overcome each of those challenges. And I wouldn't trade mine for anyone else's.
I must go now, Javin has closed himself in my room, and that can only spell trouble and big messes!

Take to Flight

Saturday we went back to the arboretum to spend the afternoon. I Must admit it really has become one of my favorite places in town. There is so much space for the Flave to run wild and free in, OK, maybe not wild. I am a firm believer in respecting nature and teaching my family to do the same. Nope, I wouldn't let him pull on the small branches of random trees or pick (aka pull out) the flowers, or stomp wildly about in the steam. I did however, think it was very cute when he was trying to catch up to the birds. Each time he would run to catch them, and the subsequently flew off he would yell, "ey, ey irdy." Javin would then spot another few birds and run full tilt at them saying "hi irdy, hi." (He has a hard time with that B sound still) =o)

I love to watch my little ones grow and learn new things. Each time it is a new little miracle to me. Being a mom has got to be the greatest job ever!
On this same day little miss Orissa sat up on her own several times for about 5 seconds at a time. I am sure she could do it longer, but she is always kicking...she is a mover and a shaker that one!
Alas, the time is a bit late and I have two, count them two children with colds, so I had best get some rest so I don't join in the fray. It wouldn't do to have the mum sick too.

Labor Day Fun.

Sometimes the best way to spend a holiday is just hanging out with the family. That is what we decided to do today! We went to the city parks website and pick one at random, loaded the family into the car and went off to the Finch Arboretum. I didn't think that it would be the kind of place that Javin would like, trees and flowers? I couldn't have been more wrong. It was a huge park with lots of open spaces for him to run around in. There was also a little creek and several basalt out crops for him to climb on.


I am pretty sure it was his kind of heaven. We spent the entire afternoon wandering all over. Javin led the way running this way and then that, giggling and turning to me turning to me coaxing me on, "Tum on Ommy, dis way, tum on!".

We could have stayed there all day, had we been thinking and packed a lunch, but as it was we spent nearly three hours there. If you are ever in the Spokane area, this is a must see for all nature lovers! Plus, if you have some young ones that need to stretch their legs, this is the place. Sure there are LOTS of parks here, and most of them are beautiful, but this one wasn't over run with big picnicing groups. There was so much to see and so many places for Javin to explore, I am sure this is going to become a favorite place for us to spend afternoons together for years to come. What better was is there to spend a holiday than with family enjoying time together? I know of none. Happy Labor Day!
