Glendive, Family and Makoshika: a story of photos for friday

Glendive is like on the other side of the world. No joke, when I flew to Ireland, the flight was as long as the drive to Glendive. When I made it to Missoula, I borrowed my niece, Hosanna and we headed out on the long journey. I must admit, it was a far smoother trip with her than it would have been by myself!

We had a splendid time visiting my sister, her brood and Orissa's grandparents...since we adopted her they adopted Javin so really they are the kids third set of grandparents...who is gonna turn down an extra Gramma and Grampa!


The kids LOVED being with their cousins and seeing their aunt and uncle. There was four wheeling, games, parks, hill rolling, flash floods and the swimming pool. There was time at gramma and grampa's house and even a visit with Nana (great gramma)!

If you have never been to Glendive, well I am not surprised, it is out in the middle of nowhere Montana, nearly in North Dakota. The drive is long from nearly everywhere, BUT it is so worth it! They have a little secret literally in their collective backyards...Makoshika State Park. I learned that it means Badlands. It is the home, or shall I say, final resting place of dinosaur bones, and the geology of the area is spectacular (I am a bit of a geology nut...if there wasn't so darn much math involved, I would be a geologist by now).



I cannot help but say, if you are up for a long drive, or flight from anywhere, and you like rocks and dinosaur bones, this should be a must see before you die place! There are also desert plants like cactuses and sage brush. Ok, I admit that I had other reasons to draw me there, and have gone 8 or 9 times, but really after you see these, you might want to come too.

When you hit this side of Montana, you understand why they call it the BIG sky state. The vista, the view, the scenery is full of the sky, sometimes blue, sometimes gray, but always there and always big!
